Dig Team Operative – Utilities Civils

About the role

The Dig Team Operative will join the ENW contract to carry out trenching, duct and cable laying, and related excavation works for high‑voltage and low‑voltage utility projects. The role involves working on private fields with limited access and ensuring all activities follow HSG47 guidelines and client specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform trenching, duct and cable laying across various HV/LV projects.
• Excavate joint bays for new connections or disconnections.
• Excavate and replace linkboxes as required.
• Backfill works in restricted‑access private fields.
• Collaborate with the scheduling team to meet programme deadlines.
• Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure work is completed to specification.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of site safety and set‑up procedures.
• Experience working on utility civils projects.
• Customer‑focused attitude with good time‑keeping and housekeeping.
• Ability to engineer on‑site solutions and adopt a “right first time” approach.

Required skills

• Mini excavator operation (up to 10 tonne).
• Full UK driving licence with towing capacity for digger.
• Safe Dig/Cable avoidance accreditation (EUSR preferred).
• Manual handling and first‑aid competence.
• Abrasive wheel handling.
• NRSWRA Operative Deep Excavations (preferred).
