Dig Team – Utility Excavation Specialist

About the role

The Dig Team role on the ENW contract involves delivering trenching, duct and cable laying, and excavation work for HV/LV utility projects. You will work on site to engineer solutions, ensure right‑first‑time delivery, and coordinate with the scheduling team to meet programme deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform trenching, duct and cable laying across various utility sites.
• Excavate joint bays, replace linkboxes, and backfill works in limited‑access private fields.
• Follow HSG47 guidelines and client specifications for all activities.
• Use Modular Plus/Depotnet smartphone system to record commercial and reinstatement feedback.
• Liaise with Support Services and Street Works teams to manage FPN and Section 74 liabilities.
• Maintain clear communication with internal and external customers to ensure work is completed to their needs.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of site safety, set‑ups and public welfare.
• Experience working on utility civils projects.
• Good time‑keeping, housekeeping and tool management.
• Customer‑focused attitude with a right‑first‑time mindset.

Required skills

• Operation of a mini excavator up to 10 tonnes (or larger).
• NRSWRA Operative certification (preferred).
• Full UK driving licence with towing capacity for digger.
• Safe Dig/Cable avoidance accreditation (EUSR preferred).
• Use of Modular Plus/Depotnet smartphone system.
• Manual handling and first‑aid awareness.
• Experience with abrasive wheels.
