Director of Asset Management

About the role

The Director of Asset Management will lead a large housing association’s investment portfolio, shaping the quality, sustainability and performance of thousands of homes. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will provide strategic leadership across asset management, stock investment, major works and retrofit services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver long‑term, medium‑term and short‑term asset management and investment strategies.
• Oversee a team of around 70 staff and manage annual investment budgets of £30‑40 million.
• Lead delivery of major works, planned investment and retrofit programmes.
• Drive performance and assurance across a diverse housing portfolio.
• Align investment decisions with the business plan, asset strategy and net‑zero ambitions.
• Provide expert advice to the Executive Management Team, Board and Committees.
• Lead procurement and contract management to maximise value for money.
• Champion resident‑focused service delivery and incorporate customer feedback into investment priorities.
• Maintain robust asset intelligence and data for strategic decision‑making.
• Deliver organisational change and continuous improvement across asset services.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in asset management within housing, property or the built environment.
• Strong track record of managing large‑scale asset and investment programmes.
• Deep understanding of asset strategy, stock investment planning and portfolio optimisation.
• Experience overseeing substantial budgets and delivering measurable value for money.
• Expertise in major works, capital investment and retrofit delivery.
