Director of Marketing, Communications and Admissions

About the role

St Mary’s Calne, a leading independent boarding and day school for girls, together with St Margaret’s Prep, is seeking an innovative Director of Marketing, Communications and Admissions. Reporting to the Head and sitting on the Schools’ Leadership Team, the post holder will shape and deliver the marketing and pupil recruitment strategies for both the senior girls’ school and the co‑educational nursery and prep school.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that enhances the schools’ brand profile across national and international markets.
• Lead all communications activities, ensuring a consistent and compelling narrative that reflects the schools’ ethos and academic excellence.
• Oversee the admissions process, managing pipelines, targets and conversion rates for both schools.
• Provide inspirational leadership to a team of seven marketing, communications and admissions professionals.
• Collaborate closely with the Head, Governors and senior leadership to align marketing initiatives with strategic objectives.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity and stakeholder insights to inform strategic decisions.
• Manage budgets, reporting and performance metrics for the marketing and admissions functions.

Required profile

• Significant senior‑level experience in marketing, communications or admissions, preferably within the independent education sector.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen and the ability to thrive in a competitive environment.
• Strong strategic thinking, creativity and the capacity to inspire and develop a high‑performing team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of delivering clear, consistent messaging.
