Director of People

About the role

Join the Executive Team of Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue as the Director of People. You will shape workforce strategy, culture and organisational capability for a modern public safety service.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the People Directorate, covering HR, employee relations, wellbeing, payroll, organisational development and operational training.
• Advise the Fire Authority and Senior Executive Team on all people matters, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities.
• Champion equality, diversity and inclusion and embed lessons from national reviews.
• Develop high‑performing people services that are efficient, trusted and continuously improving.
• Strengthen leadership pathways, career development and workforce planning for future capability.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leadership experience, preferably in the public sector or large organisations.
• Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive culture, employee wellbeing and organisational development.
• Excellent communication and change‑management skills.
