Director – Private Client Solicitor (Wills & Probate)

About the role

Our client, a top‑tier national law firm recognised in The Legal 500 and Chambers, is seeking a Director‑level Private Client Solicitor specialising in Wills and Probate. Based in the City of London, you will lead a dedicated team delivering compassionate, high‑quality advice to private individuals and families.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Wills & Probate practice, reporting directly to the department Director.
• Supervise solicitors, trainees and paralegals handling private client matters.
• Handle a full range of matters including will drafting, inheritance tax planning, trust creation, estate administration, grant of probate, contested wills and Court of Protection cases.
• Provide advice on international wills, Islamic inheritance matters and complex family structures.
• Maintain accurate time‑recording, file management and compliance with firm procedures.
• Develop and mentor junior staff, ensuring high standards of client care.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in private client work.
• Holder of a clean, valid practising certificate at the time of application.
• Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload and lead a team.
• Strong client‑care orientation with a sensitive, empathetic approach.
