Doctor Functional Assessor – WCA (Hybrid, £72k)

About the role

Maximus is seeking a Registered Medical Doctor to join its team as a Functional Assessor for Work Capability Assessments (WCA). Working hybrid from Liverpool, you will apply your clinical expertise to evaluate how health conditions affect daily life and support the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in benefit decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct telephone, video or face‑to‑face assessments for complex cases, including veterans, neurological conditions, industrial injuries and respiratory diseases.
• Produce detailed WCA reports that inform DWP eligibility decisions.
• Provide clinical reviews and advice to case managers on complaints and enquiries from customers, welfare groups, MPs and DWP.
• Deliver outcomes and feedback on complaints about healthcare professionals to drive professional development and business improvement.

Required profile

• Valid GMC registration number.
• At least one year of post‑registration experience, within or outside the NHS.
• Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship offered).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with computer software for report writing.
