Duty Control Manager

About the role

Join a leading rail freight operation as a Duty Control Manager, overseeing a safety‑critical control environment in the South region. You will lead a team of Train Controllers, coordinate incident responses, and ensure services run safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full situational awareness across the South region, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
• Lead and support Train Controllers on every shift, providing guidance and direction.
• Assist controllers with complex operational issues, balancing safety, performance and customer impact.
• Coordinate major incident responses, ensuring a structured and consistent approach.
• Communicate accurately and promptly with customers, depots, operational teams, industry partners and senior leadership.
• Identify operational risks and escalate issues when customer impact or performance requires intervention.
• Uphold operational discipline, procedural compliance, accurate record‑keeping and high control‑room standards.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a safety‑critical control environment, preferably rail or a similar sector.
• Strong decision‑making skills under pressure with a focus on safety and service continuity.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement at all levels.
• Ability to analyse operational data and manage competing priorities.
• Experience working closely with planning, rostering, depot teams and senior operational leaders.
