Duty Family Support Practitioner – Children’s Centre

About the role
The Duty Family Support Practitioner will work in children’s centres across Birmingham, providing on‑the‑spot support to families with children from pre‑birth to five years old. This is a full‑time, temporary position focused on safeguarding, walk‑in enquiries and facilitating group sessions.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver drop‑in support and group interventions for families during centre opening hours (9am–5pm).
- Identify safeguarding concerns and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate records and produce needs assessments leading to interventions.
- Provide information, guidance and sign‑posting to relevant services.
- Support colleagues who hold caseloads and assist with early help referrals.
Required profile
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, Working with Parents, or equivalent.
- Experience delivering family support interventions for children up to five years.
- Proven ability to work in partnership with professionals and agencies.
- Experience recording and reporting in a family‑support context.
Required skills
- Skilled in using electronic recording systems.
- Strong observational skills to assess family functioning.
- Excellent communication with families and professionals.
- Ability to develop and deliver both one‑to‑one and group approaches.
