Duty Manager – Convenience Retail

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Duty Manager to support the day‑to‑day operation of a busy convenience store. The role involves selling a broad range of ambient, fresh, frozen and food‑to‑go products and leading a team to deliver excellent customer service and commercial results.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily store operations, including opening and closing as a key holder.
• Manage stock replenishment, deliveries, rotation, date checks and waste control for ambient, fresh and frozen items.
• Support hot‑food preparation and food‑to‑go service.
• Maintain high standards of merchandising, availability and store presentation.
• Lead, motivate and develop store colleagues, create rotas and conduct performance reviews.
• Resolve customer queries and complaints, building strong relationships with the local community.
• Monitor sales, profit and KPI targets, control waste, shrinkage and operating costs.
• Produce operational and financial reports as required.

Required profile

• Previous retail management or supervisory experience, preferably in convenience, food retail or FMCG.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational abilities.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive, hands‑on approach.
• Ability to prioritise and perform in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong focus on customer satisfaction.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
• Commercial awareness, attention to detail and sound decision‑making.
• Commitment to developing and engaging team members.
