Duty Solicitor – Criminal Defence (Full‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Duty Solicitor to join our Criminal Defence team in Farnborough. The role involves handling a diverse range of criminal cases, providing advice under the Legal Aid scheme, and supporting the firm’s commitment to client advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Attend police stations and magistrates’ courts as part of the duty rota.
• Provide legal advice and representation to clients on Legal Aid matters.
• Manage a caseload covering theft, assault, drug and public order offences.
• Prepare cases for trial and liaise with barristers, experts and other professionals.
• Maintain accurate case records using the firm’s case management system.
• Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and internal policies.
• Support the development of junior staff and trainees where appropriate.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor with Duty Solicitor accreditation.
• Minimum 1 year post‑qualification experience in criminal law.
• Strong advocacy experience in Magistrates’ Court.
• Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Legal Aid procedures and billing.
• Proficiency in using case management software.
