Duty Solicitor – Criminal Defence

About the role
We are looking for a qualified Duty Solicitor to join our expanding Criminal Defence team in the City of London. You will manage a varied criminal caseload, represent clients at police stations and advocate in the Magistrates' Court.
Key responsibilities
- Represent clients at police stations and during investigations
- Manage a full criminal defence caseload covering a broad range of offences
- Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates' Court, including summary trials
- Attend Crown Court hearings where Higher Rights apply
- Prepare cases for hearings and trial, liaising with courts, counsel, police and external agencies
- Maintain accurate case files and compliance records
Required profile
- Qualified solicitor with at least 1 year PQE in Criminal Law
- Duty Solicitor accreditation preferred or willingness to obtain it
- Strong advocacy and communication abilities
- Ability to manage a demanding caseload independently
- Professional, pragmatic and client‑focused approach
- Effective under pressure and collaborative within a team
Required skills
- Strong IT proficiency and experience with case management systems
