Duty Team Manager – Assessments

About the role
The Duty Team Manager will lead one of Wigan Council's Duty Teams within the fast‑paced Duty and Assessments service. You will work closely with five existing teams to ensure timely, high‑quality assessments for children and families, while upholding safeguarding standards.
Key responsibilities
- Drive good practice across the Duty and Assessments service.
- Support social workers handling complex, high‑risk cases.
- Ensure initial Children and Family assessments are completed promptly.
- Oversee case transfer points such as child protection conferences, CLA reviews, PLO meetings and Child In Need meetings.
- Promote high‑quality social work practice that empowers children, families and local communities.
Required profile
- Extensive knowledge of legislative frameworks and legal proceedings relevant to social work.
- Proven experience managing teams of social workers in high‑risk environments.
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection standards.
- Ability to work in partnership with children, young people and parents to achieve positive outcomes.
