EAL Specialist Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an EAL Specialist Teaching Assistant to support secondary school students aged 11‑16 (and up to 18) who are learning English as an additional language. Working across a network of London schools, you will help pupils develop language skills and fully engage with the curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Support EAL students within mainstream lessons across a range of subjects.
• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small‑group interventions to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening.
• Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility for EAL learners.
• Encourage confidence and participation in the classroom.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEN/EAL coordinators to track progress and implement strategies.

Required profile

• Experience supporting students with English as an Additional Language.
• Strong spoken and written English; additional languages are a plus.
• Patient, culturally aware and able to build strong relationships.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
• Background in education, linguistics, TESOL or language support is desirable.
