EAL Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Reception to Year 2)

About the role

We are partnering with a primary school in the Borough of Wandsworth to hire an EAL Teaching Assistant. You will support young learners in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who are developing English as an additional language.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group phonics and language interventions.
• Support classroom teachers by preparing materials and assisting during lessons.
• Take children out of class for targeted English practice sessions.
• Monitor progress and report observations to the teaching team.
• Participate in CPD and training sessions to enhance EAL teaching strategies.

Required profile

• Degree qualified or holding a Level 2/3 Education, Childcare or Early Years qualification.
• Good understanding of phonics and experience with early‑stage English learners.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a teaching team.
• Willingness to work term‑time, full‑time schedule starting September 2026.
