Early Years Specialist Tutor – 1:1 Therapeutic Educator

About the role

We are looking for an empathetic and creative Early Years Specialist Tutor to deliver 1:1 therapeutic education for a Year 1 pupil currently out of mainstream school. The role blends EYFS/KS1 curriculum with play‑based and movement‑focused therapeutic strategies to support emotional regulation and academic progress.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate the child’s interests (nature books, art, imaginary and messy play) into core subjects such as reading, writing and maths.
• Provide therapeutic behaviour support using physical movement, sensory tools and proactive co‑regulation techniques.
• Deliver short, bite‑sized lessons (10‑15 minute “nuggets”) to maintain academic standards without overwhelming the learner.
• Act as a consistent, calm adult presence to build trust and emotional security.
• Monitor and record academic and behavioural progress to facilitate a smooth transition back to mainstream primary school.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status or extensive primary/early‑years tutoring experience.
• Proven expertise in EYFS and Key Stage 1 teaching frameworks.
• Experience supporting children with SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds or histories of exclusion.
• Ability to deliver learning on the move, incorporating outdoor exploration, physical activity and messy play.
• Strong de‑escalation and empathy‑led behaviour management skills.

Required skills

• Use of digital learning platforms such as Century Tech.
• Familiarity with sensory tools (e.g., gym ball) for co‑regulation.
