Editor, Early Modern Letters Online (EMLO)

About the role
The Early Modern Letters Online (EMLO) project, hosted by the University of Oxford, is seeking an editor to enrich and maintain its catalogue of early modern correspondence. You will work closely with the editorial team to add and improve metadata for letters held in the Bodleian's manuscript collections.
Key responsibilities
- Enter and refine metadata for early modern letters in the EMLO database.
- Identify manuscripts of research interest and liaise with curatorial staff.
- Support the development of digital outputs, publications and collaborative initiatives.
- Work with the Curator of Early Modern Manuscripts and colleagues across BDLSS and EMLO.
Required profile
- A relevant first degree and a postgraduate qualification in early modern history, literature or equivalent experience.
- Palaeographical ability to read English secretary‑hand of the 16th‑17th centuries.
- Strong understanding of early modern documents and their research value.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
