Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

RGB Recruitment is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary building services consultancy in Birmingham. The role offers the chance to work on high‑profile, technically challenging projects across sectors such as data centres, education, healthcare, defence, aviation, commercial and residential.

Key responsibilities

• Produce electrical building services designs across RIBA Stages 1‑7.
• Design power distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm and data systems.
• Carry out electrical calculations, including cable sizing, load assessments and power distribution using Trimble Amtech or equivalent.
• Generate lighting calculations with Dialux, Relux or similar tools.
• Prepare specifications, technical reports and supporting design documentation.
• Create and coordinate AutoCAD drawings, with Revit coordination where required.
• Ensure designs comply with BS7671, IET Wiring Regulations and current British Standards.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, architects, structural engineers and the wider project team.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of building services engineering experience.
• Motivation to progress towards Senior Engineer level and chartership.
• Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and manage design responsibilities through the full project lifecycle.

Required skills

• Trimble Amtech (or equivalent electrical calculation software).
• Dialux or Relux for lighting calculations.
• AutoCAD.
• Revit (coordination).
• Knowledge of BS7671, IET Wiring Regulations and British Standards.
