Electrical Engineer – Plant Maintenance (North West England)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Electrical Engineer to keep our food manufacturing plant running smoothly, safely and efficiently. You will work closely with production and engineering teams, using both planned maintenance and rapid fault‑finding to minimise downtime and support high‑quality output.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance in line with the CMMS schedule.
• Respond quickly to machinery breakdowns and restore equipment safely.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on ovens, conveyors, mixers, weighers and packaging lines.
• Support line change‑overs and start‑ups to reduce downtime.
• Record all engineering activity accurately in the CMMS.
• Contribute to reliability‑focused continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, installations and modifications.
• Ensure work complies with Health & Safety, food hygiene and GMP standards and maintain a clean 5S work area.

Required profile

• Time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG or food.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding abilities.
• Willingness to work a 4‑on/4‑off shift pattern and occasional overtime.

Required skills

• PLC knowledge at fault‑finding level (programming not required).
• Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
