Electrical Technician / Senior Electrical Technician

About the role

Diamond Light Source is seeking an Electrical Technician or Senior Electrical Technician to support the installation, commissioning, upgrade and operational activities of its accelerator systems (LINAC, Booster and Storage Ring). The role is based on the Harwell campus and involves hands‑on work with specialist injection, insertion‑device and front‑end equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and upgrade electrical components of accelerator systems, including control racks, wiring and field equipment.
• Perform testing, maintenance, fault finding, repair and calibration of electrical assemblies and enclosures.
• Prepare test procedures, carry out safety inspections and ensure compliance with inspection regulations.
• Support scientific and technical groups with the maintenance of their equipment.
• For senior level: manage design, manufacture, installation and testing of new front‑ends and insertion devices, analyse failure records and plan repairs during shutdown periods.

Required profile

• Relevant electrical or engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working on high‑voltage, high‑precision accelerator or similar research‑facility equipment.
• Ability to work safely on‑site, follow strict safety protocols and produce accurate documentation.
