Electrician (Level 3) – Maintenance at HMP Leyhill

About the role

Hays Specialist Recruitment is seeking a qualified Level 3 Electrician to join the maintenance team at HMP Leyhill, a secure prison site near Bristol. You will work on a diverse property estate, delivering both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across commercial and industrial electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance tasks.
• Diagnose faults and perform repairs on electrical equipment.
• Install, test and commission new electrical systems.
• Maintain accurate inspection, testing and maintenance records.
• Support maintenance projects and minor works.
• Escort and supervise external contractors when required.
• Adhere to site security procedures and health & safety standards.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification.
• Knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
• Experience with commercial or industrial electrical systems.
• Strong fault‑finding and maintenance capability.
• Understanding of planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
• Eligibility to undergo security vetting and provide proof of right to work in the UK.
