Job description

About the role

We are looking for a permanent Electrician to join our facilities management team at HMP Whatton in Nottingham. You will help keep the prison’s electrical systems safe, compliant and operational, supporting a secure environment for staff and residents.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance and associated administrative tasks.
  • Diagnose faults and resolve problems on electrical systems throughout the prison.
  • Perform like‑for‑like replacements and minor electrical works, completing inspections and tests in line with BS7671.
  • Ensure all electrical installations meet health & safety standards and are recorded correctly.
  • Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person with health & safety, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Provide escort duties and other duties as required.

Required profile

  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification (or equivalent).
  • BS7671 18th Edition certification (or 17th Edition with up‑skilling).
  • Good knowledge of health & safety legislation and planned maintenance processes.
  • Ability to work at heights, independently and use initiative.
  • Willingness to obtain Prison Security Clearance and a Standard DBS.
