Electrician – Shipbuilding – £40,016 + Shift Allowance

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a qualified Electrician to join the electrical team responsible for installing power and control systems on Type 26 frigates. The role is based onsite in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun) and offers a competitive salary of £40,016 plus a 33 % shift allowance.

Key responsibilities

• Install a variety of cables (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial) and electrical equipment such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Terminate cables and mount electrical components to trade standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with shipbuilding teams to ensure timely completion of installations.
• Maintain compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine or major industrial electrical installations.
• Knowledge of risk assessments, PUWER, COSHH and safe working procedures.
• Ability to follow trade drawings, tag‑out processes and proving‑dead procedures.

Required skills

• Cable installation (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial).
• Electrical systems installation (junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers, switches).
• Interpretation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Risk‑assessment and compliance (PUWER, COSHH).
• Tag‑out and proving‑dead safety procedures.
• Equipment mounting, earthing and cable termination to trade standards.
