Electrician – Shipbuilding (Shift)

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a qualified Electrician to join the electrical team responsible for installing power and control systems on Type 26 frigates. The role is based onsite in Glasgow (Govan and Scotstoun) and involves working shift patterns to support shipbuilding schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Install a variety of cables (multi‑core, single‑core, coaxial) and electrical equipment such as junction boxes, fuse panels, consoles, transformers and switches.
• Terminate cables and mount electrical components to trade standards.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with shipbuilding teams to ensure timely completion of installations.
• Maintain compliance with safety, quality, PUWER and COSHH regulations.

Required profile

• Completed Modern Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3) or equivalent trade qualification.
• Holder of a valid SJIB card.
• Experience in marine or major industrial electrical installations.
• Familiarity with risk assessments, tag‑out and proving‑dead procedures.

Required skills

• Cable installation and termination.
• Electrical schematics interpretation.
• Mounting and earthing of electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of PUWER, COSHH and safety standards.
• Ability to follow trade drawings and technical instructions.
