Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

ALL.SPACE develops a smart terminal that links with all satellites, networks and orbits at once, using a software-defined service platform that combines intelligent routing, edge computing and on-demand services. Its terminal designs are fully electronic beam steering systems with applications in aeronautical, land mobile, maritime and 5G sectors. The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, testing and maintenance of the embedded software that manages and controls the terminal products, including real-time terminal control software, web interfaces and REST API interfaces. The engineer works in an Agile team delivering features against a release roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Perform requirements analysis with internal and external stakeholders
• Write architecture and design documentation for new software features
• Deliver tested software features for an embedded real-time system in C++
• Implement automated unit and integration tests
• Test and debug in simulation and on target hardware
• Help investigate and resolve software issues
• Use design patterns to ensure quality, security, modifiability and extensibility
• Work within the team's Agile framework and contribute to peer reviews

Required profile

• Experience in C++ development on embedded systems and proven delivery of reliable real-time embedded functionality
• Full lifecycle development experience (design, develop, test, maintain)
• Competence with Linux and FreeRTOS
• Understanding of physical interfaces such as Serial, Ethernet, SPI and CAN
• Knowledge of hardware debugging and performance characterisation
• Understanding of source code management (git) and CI/CD pipelines
• Ability to generate documentation (Jira, Confluence) and perform peer reviews
• Collaborative, self-organising problem solver with attention to detail

The role requires working at the Reading site to control and debug on target hardware; it could be hybrid, with some time on site.
