Emergency Placement Worker

About the role

New Start is seeking an Emergency Placement Worker to join its night shelter team in Southport. You will provide immediate support to vulnerable rough sleepers, helping them move into stable accommodation and access essential services throughout the night.

Key responsibilities

• Be present in the night shelter from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am on a rolling 3‑on‑3‑off rota.
• Update Mainstay on arrivals and add new placements promptly.
• Complete a Mainstay Assessment within 24 hours of arrival and refer clients to appropriate hostel accommodation.
• Develop a personalised Support Plan within 48 hours, focusing on barriers to housing.
• Ensure residents are registered on Property Pool Plus, with correct banding and weekly bids placed.
• Provide coaching, advice and guidance on housing, resettlement and harm‑reduction topics.
• Assist residents with welfare benefits, budgeting and referrals to the Welfare Benefits Team.
• Explore education, training and employment opportunities for residents.
• Liaise with external agencies to secure additional specialist support.

Required profile

• Commitment to working night hours and delivering compassionate support to vulnerable adults.
• Ability to follow New Start and Sefton Supported Housing Group policies and procedures.
• Willingness to undertake training, including basic IT skills.
