Employee Relations Manager – NHS (6‑Month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

We are supporting a large NHS organisation in Surrey with a 6‑month fixed‑term contract for an experienced Employee Relations Manager. Reporting to the HR Operations leadership team, you will act as the subject‑matter expert for complex employee relations matters, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with NHS policies and employment legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a portfolio of complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence matters.
• Provide expert advice on employment law, NHS terms and conditions, and organisational policies.
• Support organisational change programmes such as restructures, consultations and workforce redesign.
• Manage employment tribunal claims and assist with legal case preparation.
• Advise on complex medical workforce issues, including MHPS matters.
• Coach and support managers in handling workforce issues effectively.
• Identify trends from casework and recommend service improvements.
• Build positive relationships with staff representatives, senior managers and clinical leaders.

Required profile

• Significant experience in employee relations within a large, complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of NHS policies, employment legislation and best practice.
• Proven ability to manage high‑risk, high‑visibility cases and advise senior stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
