Employment Solicitor

About the role

The Government Legal Department (GLD) is seeking a qualified Employment Solicitor to join its senior legal team in London. You will work alongside ministers, senior officials and other legal professionals, providing high‑profile advice on employment matters across a range of government departments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and risk‑based employment law advice to ministers and departmental officials.
• Draft, review and negotiate employment contracts, policies and procedural documents.
• Handle a caseload of employment disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
• Collaborate with colleagues in litigation, commercial and advisory teams to deliver integrated legal solutions.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK employment legislation and EU‑derived regulations.

Required profile

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strong analytical judgement and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly.
• Open‑minded, impartial and able to work collaboratively under pressure.
• Willingness to obtain DV security clearance where required.
