Employment Support Specialist – Individual Placement Support

About the role

The Employment Support Specialist will work on the Connect to Work programme, using the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model to help residents with health conditions, disabilities or complex barriers secure meaningful employment. Based in Morpeth, the role involves outreach across Northumberland, meeting people in community settings, GP surgeries, job centres and employer sites.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a small, person‑centred caseload aligned to the IPS fidelity model.
• Deliver outreach services across the county in community, health and employer environments.
• Engage with employers to identify suitable roles and provide in‑work support during the first weeks.
• Collaborate with NHS, DWP, housing providers and voluntary organisations.
• Support residents through vocational profiling, action planning and integration with wider support services.

Required profile

• Experience in employability, community engagement or health/social care.
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and IT skills.
• Ability to work autonomously across agencies and manage complex referrals.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Knowledge of local services and employment challenges (desirable).

Required skills

• IT skills for case management and reporting.
