Enablement Support Officer – Housing

About the role

This 12‑month maternity cover position supports residents facing financial hardship, housing instability, debt, unemployment or welfare benefit issues. Working hybrid, you will take a holistic, person‑centred approach to help individuals achieve long‑term independence.

Key responsibilities

• Assess residents' financial, housing and personal circumstances.
• Provide advice on Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax, and discretionary funding.
• Develop personalised support plans and set realistic outcomes.
• Support budgeting, debt management and financial resilience.
• Identify employment, training and housing options that promote independence.
• Make decisions on discretionary financial assistance.
• Conduct resident interviews, home visits and advocacy as needed.
• Collaborate with DWP, Jobcentre Plus, adult social care, health services, landlords and community organisations.
• Maintain accurate case records and monitor progress to successful closure.
• Contribute to service improvements and best practice.

Required profile

• Experience in welfare benefits, housing support, homelessness prevention or financial inclusion.
• Passion for helping residents overcome challenges and achieve independence.
• Ability to work flexibly across 27 hours per week, with a minimum of two days onsite.
• Strong communication and advocacy skills.

• Flexible schedule: five shorter days or three nine‑hour days.
• Hourly rate £21.41 – £28.40 (PAYE or Umbrella).
