Energy Support Officer – Housing & Communities

About the role

The Local Authority in Berkshire is seeking an Energy Support Officer to join its Housing and Energy Support Team. You will work directly with residents to help them manage energy costs, improve home efficiency, and address damp or mould issues in council‑owned properties.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct home energy efficiency assessments and identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide advice on reducing energy consumption and lowering household bills.
• Assist residents in accessing grants, schemes, and other financial support.
• Liaise with energy suppliers on behalf of residents when required.
• Visit and follow up with households across the borough, maintaining accurate case records.
• Assess damp and mould problems and give practical prevention advice.
• Collaborate with housing teams and external partner agencies.
• Promote energy support services through community events and outreach.
• Handle customer enquiries professionally within agreed timescales.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
• Experience providing advice and support to the public.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and keep detailed records.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and use initiative.
