Engineering & Design Manager – High Voltage Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering & Design Manager to lead a high‑performing team delivering complex high‑voltage (HV) infrastructure projects across the UK energy sector. You will act as the technical authority, guiding projects from concept through to energisation while ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards and regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the engineering and design team across HV infrastructure projects.
• Oversee substation, cable and overhead line design activities.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables and technical submissions.
• Serve as the technical authority for clients, DNOs, TSOs and internal stakeholders.
• Support tenders, bids and project development activities.
• Drive engineering standards, processes and continuous improvement.
• Manage resource allocation and team development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in HV electrical design within utilities, EPCs, ICPs or consultancy environments.
• Strong knowledge of substation, protection and grid connection design.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• In‑depth understanding of UK DNO/TSO standards and grid connection processes.
• Ability to influence technical direction and shape engineering standards.
