Engineering Lead – Sterile Services (Full Time)

About the role

The Engineering Lead will provide maintenance, testing, validation and breakdown support for the Ramsay Decontamination Hub in Braintree. You will ensure equipment reliability, promote in‑house training and work closely with the Group Estates Manager to meet mandatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance Routine as defined in SOP manuals.
• Perform statutory insurance inspections and resolve any remedial actions.
• Provide a customer‑focused service to minimise production delays and manage unplanned outages.
• Attend governance meetings and contribute to site and corporate working groups.
• Maintain health and safety standards and support the on‑call rota for the Braintree unit.
• Develop basic knowledge of Oaks and Springfield Hospitals to assist in emergencies.
• Prioritise breakdown work against planned activities and act as first point of contact for external contractors.
• Reduce reliance on external contractors as the in‑house TSSU Engineering team grows.
• Support and train apprentices across the site and other units.

Required profile

• City & Guilds Part 1/2, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential).
• Comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong fault‑finding techniques.
• Experience managing and coordinating contractors and service engineers.
• Desirable: HNC or equivalent, City & Guilds ONC or NVQ Level 3.
