Engineering Manager – Lead Multi‑disciplinary Team in Manufacturing

About the role

Northwood is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary engineering team at its Lancaster manufacturing site. You will oversee engineering best practice across both paper‑mill and converting operations, combining strong electrical insight with solid mechanical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a diverse engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and reliability programmes across paper‑mill and FMCG‑style converting lines.
• Own CAPEX projects from concept through delivery, ensuring they meet budget and strategic objectives.
• Manage engineering budgets and influence site‑wide strategy, safety, and investment decisions.
• Conduct regular Gemba walks to maintain a visible presence on the shop floor and address operational challenges.

Required profile

• Hands‑on people leader who can balance urgent priorities with long‑term objectives.
• Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
• Experience in heavy‑industrial or FMCG manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrates humility, integrity and the ability to challenge behaviours to uphold safety, quality and sustainability.

Required skills

• Strong electrical bias with expertise in PLC fault finding and ladder logic.
• Mechanical competence in building, maintaining and repairing gearboxes, shafts, centrifugal pumps.
• Proficiency in MIG/TIG welding.
