English Lecturer – Functional Skills & GCSE

About the role

Reed is seeking enthusiastic English lecturers to deliver Functional Skills and GCSE English courses to learners aged 16‑19 across colleges, prisons and training providers in North‑West London. The role can be undertaken on a part‑time or full‑time basis and is temporary, offering flexible hours at a competitive hourly rate.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons covering Functional Skills and GCSE English curricula.
• Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records.
• Manage classroom behaviour and create a supportive learning environment.
• Collaborate with fellow staff and contribute to the development of teaching resources.
• Ensure compliance with assessment standards and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Teaching qualification such as AET, PTLLS, PGCE or equivalent.
• Assessors’ qualification (e.g., A1, D33/D34, CAVA, TAQA, IQA) is desirable.
• Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
• Experience working with 16‑19‑year‑olds in an educational or apprenticeship setting.
• Level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths.
• Current Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.

Required skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Organisational skills for lesson planning and record‑keeping.
• Capability to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
