Environment Advisor – Environmental Incident Management

About the role

The Environment Advisor supports South West Water’s commitment to protecting the environment by managing pollution incidents and ensuring regulatory compliance. Working closely with operational teams and the Environment Agency, you will help reduce pollution events and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, track and maintain accurate records of all pollution incidents.
• Coordinate detailed investigations, capture impact assessments and supporting evidence.
• Prepare and submit Incident Summary Reports to the Environment Agency and respond to regulator enquiries.
• Develop responses to Compliance Assessment Reports and other regulatory requests.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with environmental regulators and act as the primary contact for incident‑related matters.
• Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on environmental regulations, policies and best practice.
• Identify opportunities to reduce incidents and support performance‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience investigating environmental incidents and preparing regulatory reports.
• Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and Environment Agency processes.
• Excellent analytical and documentation skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively across operational, sampling, laboratory, legal and wastewater teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
• Experience with incident investigation and data management.
• Familiarity with regulatory correspondence and compliance documentation.
