Environmental Enforcement Officer

About the role
The Environmental Enforcement Officer will join the Environmental Enforcement Team at Northumberland County Council, based at the Stakeford Depot in Choppington. Working within Neighborhood Services, the officer will help protect the environment by enforcing a range of local regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to identify and address fly‑tipping, abandoned vehicles, graffiti, dog fouling and litter.
- Investigate complaints, conduct PACE‑compliant interviews and manage cases from initial report to prosecution.
- Prepare prosecution files and liaise with the council’s legal team.
- Collaborate with residents, elected members, town and parish councils, and other EET members.
Required profile
- Good literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills.
- Experience of enforcement procedures, including patrolling, complaint investigation, PACE interviewing, case management and court‑file preparation.
- Excellent communication and customer‑handling abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
