Environmental Health Officer – Food Safety Enforcement

About the role

Brent Council is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join its Food and Health & Safety Team. The role focuses on protecting public health by enforcing food safety, health & safety and infectious disease regulations across the borough.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate health and safety complaints, service requests and RIDDOR notifications.
• Carry out inspections, audits and site visits in food establishments and other premises.
• Assess compliance with relevant legislation and take enforcement action, including serving notices and preparing legal cases.
• Gather and present evidence, prepare witness statements and attend court or tribunal hearings when required.
• Provide professional advice to businesses, residents and stakeholders.
• Manage a demanding caseload while meeting targets and service standards.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification for health and safety interventions (Diploma, BSc, MSc in Environmental Health or NEBOSH).
• Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and evidence of CPD.
• Current experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and enforcement practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, report writing and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with case management software.
• General IT competence.
