Environmental Health Officer – Health & Safety Enforcement

About the role

This contract position joins Brent Council’s Health & Safety Enforcement Team to protect public health and safety across the borough. You will work on a hybrid basis, balancing field investigations with office‑based case management.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate health and safety complaints, service requests and RIDDOR notifications.
• Carry out inspections, site visits, audits, surveys and detailed investigations.
• Assess compliance with health and safety legislation and take appropriate enforcement action.
• Prepare and serve notices, compile evidence, write witness statements and attend court or tribunal hearings.
• Provide clear advice to businesses, residents and other stakeholders.
• Manage a demanding caseload while meeting targets and service standards.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification enabling health and safety interventions (Diploma, BSc, MSc in Environmental Health or NEBOSH).
• Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and evidence of CPD.
• Current experience in health and safety enforcement.
• Strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation and enforcement practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to produce accurate reports and legal documentation.
• Investigative, analytical and decision‑making abilities.

Required skills
