Environmental Protection Officer

About the role

Teqniq Ltd is seeking an Environmental Protection Officer to join a public‑sector team in South West England. Working 37 hours a week on a six‑month fixed‑term contract, you will help safeguard the environment and public health across the district.

Key responsibilities

• Promote and enforce environmental protection, covering industrial emissions, air quality, contaminated land, private drinking water, anti‑social behaviour and nuisance issues.
• Carry out reactive and proactive interventions such as advice, inspections, investigations, audits, surveillance and impact assessments for development or licensing applications.
• Drive compliance through education programmes and accreditation schemes, reducing the need for enforcement.
• Represent the service on project teams, specialist sub‑groups and multi‑agency task forces.
• Supervise external contractors and collaborate with Planning, Building Control, ASB Hub, Housing Benefits and other agencies.
• Provide on‑call and emergency advice by telephone and cover out‑of‑hours responsibilities.

Required profile

• Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to conduct inspections, investigations and produce clear reports.
• Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and multi‑agency collaboration.
• Own vehicle and flexibility to work both on‑site and remotely.
• Willingness to be on‑call outside normal working hours.
