ERAS and Prehabilitation Nurse

About the role

The NHS Lothian team at Western General Hospital is seeking an ERAS and Prehabilitation Nurse to join a highly skilled nursing family. This position focuses on delivering enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways and pre‑habilitation services, supporting patients to achieve optimal outcomes before, during, and after surgery.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and coordinate ERAS protocols for surgical patients.
• Conduct pre‑habilitation assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Provide patient education on recovery and rehabilitation strategies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physiotherapists, dietitians, and physicians.
• Monitor patient progress, adjust care plans, and ensure compliance with clinical guidelines.
• Lead and mentor junior nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects and audit activities related to surgical recovery.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC‑registered) with current practice registration.
• Experience in surgical, peri‑operative, or rehabilitation nursing.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and a commitment to NHS values.
• Ability to work in a diverse, inclusive environment and engage with patients compassionately.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Knowledge of ERAS pathway protocols and pre‑habilitation assessment tools.
• Strong clinical documentation and patient monitoring skills.
