Estate Caretaker (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Estate Caretaker to join a well‑known housing association on a temporary basis. You will be responsible for keeping internal and external communal areas of residential blocks clean, safe and presentable.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and clean communal areas, including sweeping, mopping, litter picking and leaf clearance.
• Maintain bin areas: rotate bins, keep refuse chutes clear and prepare bulk bins for collection.
• Carry out health and safety checks, report graffiti, abandoned vehicles and bulk rubbish to the relevant teams.
• Clean internal surfaces such as ledges, sills, handrails, balustrades, doors and remove cobwebs from light fittings.
• Record work using the provided systems and photograph any repairs or safety issues for follow‑up.
• Act as a point of contact, communicating with housing officers and other departments and reporting tenancy concerns.
• Hose down and disinfect areas after waste removal.

Required profile

• Previous experience in estate or block caretaking or a similar facilities‑maintenance role.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently, follow instructions and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
• Strong communication skills for reporting issues and liaising with teams.

What we offer

• PAYE rate of £14.00 per hour or £17.00 per hour on an umbrella arrangement.
• Temporary fixed‑term contract.
• Monday‑Friday schedule with optional Saturday shifts.
• Work location near Barbican tube station (EC1V).
