Estimator – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure Projects

About the role

We are supporting a well‑established contractor in South Yorkshire/West Leeds, looking for an experienced Estimator to join their commercial team. You will play a pivotal part in the pre‑construction phase, delivering accurate cost plans and competitive tender submissions for civil engineering, infrastructure and rail projects.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed cost plans and tender submissions for a wide range of infrastructure projects.
• Build estimates using first‑principles pricing, covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractor packages and logistics.
• Prepare Schedules of Rates (SoR) based on resource analysis and benchmark pricing.
• Carry out quantity take‑offs from engineering drawings and specifications using digital and manual methods.
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure robust tender pricing.
• Identify commercial, technical and programme risks and contribute to risk mitigation planning.
• Maintain internal pricing databases, benchmark cost libraries and historical estimating records.

Required profile

• HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or related discipline (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
• Proven experience preparing estimates within civil engineering, rail or multidisciplinary construction environments.
• Strong understanding of first‑principles and resource‑based pricing methodologies.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and contract documents confidently.
