Experienced HGV Class 1 Driver – Steel Distribution

About the role

WPRG Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Class 1 driver to join a large steel distributor in Thurrock, Essex. You will operate flat‑bed trucks to deliver sheet metal, rods and girders, with all loading and unloading performed by forklift or crane, so no manual lifting is required.

Key responsibilities

• Complete 5–10 steel deliveries per day on flat‑bed trailers.
• Secure loads using straps or chains and verify safety before departure.
• Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle checks and complete delivery paperwork.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and work with the distribution team.
• Work a Monday‑Friday shift starting between 05:30 and 06:00, with a minimum paid shift of 10.5 hours and overtime thereafter.

Required profile

• Valid HGV Class 1 licence held for at least 12 months.
• Full CPC qualification and digital tachograph card.
• Maximum six penalty points on licence.
• Experience securing loads with straps or chains is preferred.
• Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing before start.

Required skills

• Operation of HGV Class 1 vehicles.
• Load securing using straps and chains.
• Use of digital tachograph equipment.
• Completion of vehicle checks and delivery documentation.
