Experienced Joiner / Carpenter for HMP Risley

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Joiner/Carpenter to work on site at HMP Risley. The position is initially temporary with the potential to become permanent, offering a stable 39‑hour week in a secure environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out joinery tasks such as constructing stairs, doors, windows, signposts, formwork and bespoke timber items.
• Measure, quote and order materials, maintaining stock levels for building maintenance.
• Fit out company vehicles for other departments and operate a vehicle when required.
• Plan daily work with a supervisor, record details on work orders and submit reports.
• Maintain the joinery workshop, including machine upkeep, statutory inspections and housekeeping.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours emergency standby rota and respond to call‑outs as needed.

Required profile

• Honest, reliable and detail‑oriented with strong teamwork skills.
• Successful completion of Prison Clearance (passport or photo driving licence required).
• City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in joinery.
• Current full UK driving licence.

What we offer

• Hourly rate between £22 and £30, paid weekly.
