Experienced Social Worker – Family Safeguarding Team

About the role

The Family Safeguarding Team at Swindon Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to deliver high‑quality, child‑centred services. You will manage complex safeguarding cases, conduct statutory assessments and work collaboratively with families and multi‑agency partners to protect children and promote lasting positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload covering Children in Need, Child Protection, Public Law Outline and care proceedings.
• Carry out Child and Family Assessments and Section 47 enquiries in line with statutory guidance.
• Develop, implement and review Child in Need, Child Protection and Care Plans.
• Represent Children’s Services at conferences, strategy meetings, legal planning meetings, PLO meetings and court hearings.
• Collaborate with health, education, police, probation, domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health, housing and voluntary agencies.
• Maintain accurate case records using the local authority’s electronic case management system.
• Participate in duty systems, respond promptly to safeguarding concerns and provide mentorship to junior staff.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with substantial experience in family safeguarding and child protection.
• Demonstrated ability to assess risk, analyse complex information and make evidence‑based decisions.
• Strong communication skills for multi‑agency collaboration and representation in legal settings.
• Commitment to restorative, strengths‑based practice and continuous service improvement.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic case management systems.
