EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate EYFS Teaching Assistant to support children with severe and complex special educational needs in a specialist school in Ashford. The role starts full‑time in September and may progress from temporary to permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small‑group support for pupils with ASD, ADHD and SEMH.
• Assist with personalised learning programmes linked to each pupil’s EHCP, focusing on communication, independence and life‑skills.
• Deliver personal care respectfully when required.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils, families and the wider school community.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant in EYFS.
• Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD or SEMH.
• Patience, emotional resilience and a proactive attitude.
• Willingness to assist with personal care and medical needs.
• Right to work in the UK and ability to obtain an enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Knowledge of early years educational practices.
• Understanding of special educational needs and EHCP implementation.
