Facilities Assistant – Primary School Site Caretaker

About the role

We are looking for a reliable Facilities Assistant to support the day‑to‑day management of a friendly primary school in Roydon, Essex. Working five hours a day, you will help keep the school environment safe, clean and well‑presented for staff and pupils.

Key responsibilities

• Open and secure the school site each morning and evening.
• Carry out routine health and safety inspections.
• Maintain tidy and safe school grounds and outdoor areas.
• Perform basic repairs and general maintenance tasks.
• Liaise with external contractors when specialised work is required.
• Assist with site preparation for school events and activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience in caretaker, site assistant, facilities or maintenance roles.
• Practical, proactive and able to work independently.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Dependable, trustworthy and takes pride in the quality of work.
• Strong communication skills.
