Facilities Officer – Maintenance & Repairs

About the role

Our client, a large local government organisation, is seeking an experienced Facilities Officer to join their team. The role starts as a three‑month fixed‑term contract with the possibility of extension for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out a wide range of internal and external repair and maintenance tasks across the Follaton House/Kilworthy Park campus, with occasional visits to other assets.
• Follow the Planned Maintenance Programme to deliver scheduled repairs and maintenance in line with trade skills and qualifications.
• Maintain the computerised Facilities Helpdesk database, assess work requests for urgency, health‑and‑safety impact and operational effect, and prioritise remedial work.
• Provide full Facilities Management support in the absence of the Senior Facilities Officer, seeking guidance from the Principal Facilities and Building Officer as required.
• Perform cost analysis on specific maintenance tasks and advise the Senior Facilities Officer.
• Undertake plumbing, carpentry, electrical maintenance and general building tasks appropriate to qualifications.
• Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on all portable electrical equipment, record results in the PAT database and follow the planned schedule.
• Identify and record potential safety hazards such as damaged fittings or trip hazards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Facilities Officer or in a similar maintenance role.
• Relevant trade qualifications covering plumbing, carpentry and electrical work.
• Ability to work from a Planned Maintenance Programme and manage a help‑desk database.
• Understanding of health and safety considerations and basic cost analysis.
