Family Safeguarding Social Worker – Locality Duty CWD

About the role

Join Wigan Council as a Family Safeguarding Social Worker within the Locality, Duty, CWD team. This temporary, full‑time position involves protecting vulnerable families and children while working closely with council partners.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and intervene in cases where children or families are at risk.
• Develop and implement safeguarding plans in line with council policies.
• Collaborate with multi‑agency partners to ensure coordinated support.
• Maintain accurate case records and produce required reports.
• Participate in on‑call duties and emergency response as needed.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with experience in family or child safeguarding.
• Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to register with Remedy for locum assignments.
• Ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS disclosure.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding standards.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UK safeguarding legislation and best practice.
• Proficiency in case management systems used by local authorities.
• Strong assessment and risk‑analysis capabilities.
